Artist Biography:
The Zhou Brothers, Shan Zuo and DaHuang Zhou, were born in 1952 and 1957 in China. They studied art as well as drama, and both received MFAs from the National Academy for Arts and Crafts in Beijing. Their style developed into one of collaboration, comprising painting, performance, and sculpture. Their aesthetic is based on a combination of Eastern and Western philosophy. Their work became widely recognized, and they won the National Prize of Chinese Avant-Garde of the Ministry of Culture, and the Prize for Creativity from the United Nations Peace Corps. Seeking an environment in which to expand their art, they left the political confines of China for the U.S., where they settled in Chicago, where they are now based. Their work can be found in private and public collections around the world, including, in Shanghai, China, the National Gallery and the International Cultural Palace, and in Chicago at the United Airlines offices, and Encyclopedia Britannica. The brothers also established their Zhou B. Center in Chicago as a large gallery space to exhibit an eclectic variety of visual artists.
